Overnight a drone was intercepted targeting the U.S. consulate in Irbil City. Another drone was shot down over an American military base in the city. On March 29 the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad faced an attack so it appears diplomatic facilities are fair game again by the pro-Iran Resistance.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) blamed the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for almost half of the attacks upon Kurdistan since the start of the Iran War. It said Tehran was responsible for 179 attacks and the Resistance another 295. It said there had been 370 assaults upon Irbil province, 90 against Sulaymaniya, 11 in Dohuk and 3 in Halabja. The Kurds have been a favorite target because they are closes to the Americans in Iraq and are being punished for it.
As an example four drones hit a motor oil storage facility outside Irbil city leading to a large fire. The Sarsang oil field in Dohuk was also attacked by a drone. It is operated by the American HKN Energy company.
In Sulaymaniya a drone was downed over a Peshmerga base.
As has become routine the Baghdad Airport was hit twice by drones.
The Resistance were also victims during the day. The Turkmen 53rd Hashd Brigade in Tal Afar Niniewa was hit by two airstrikes. A commander was killed and three others wounded.
Not all the news war related on April 1. The Iraqi national soccer team was the last to qualify for the World Cup after they defeated Bolivia in a match in Mexico. They will be making their first appearance in the tournament in 40 years.
