The Islamic State remained largely dormant in Iraq during the fourth week of June. There were just four incidents from June 22-28. There were two incidents the week before. This was the 21st straight week incidents were in single digits.
The incidents during the week took place in Diyala (1), Kirkuk (1), and Salahaddin (2).
They left 2 killed and 4 wounded. 2 members of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) died and 4 more were wounded. There was one casualty in Diyala, two in Kirkuk and three in Salahaddin.
In northern Diyala along the Baghdad-Khalis road a member of the ISF was fired upon and wounded by the insurgents. During a security sweep in Kirkuk a group of IS members was discovered leading to a gun battle. One soldier was killed and another was injured. The militants launched an attack upon the security forces in the Samarra district and a checkpoint was attacked in Dour outside of Tikrit leaving one police dead and 2 wounded. Both of those were in Salahaddin. As usual all of these occurred in rural areas of Iraq. These are the only places IS can now operate in. Their main concern is to keep the government out and attempt to survive.
