Security In Iraq, Aug 8-14, 2024

During the second week of August there were two incidents in Iraq by the Islamic State.

 

In Anbar a drone struck a tribal Hashd headquarters with no casualties. The last time IS was active in the province was back in March. This was a very unusual event since the insurgency has not used drones in the country for quite some time.

 

In Sulaymaniya a security operation came across an IS cell in a tunnel network which was planning assassinations. There was a gun battle that killed 2 Asayesh. According to Iraq Oil Report this was the second IS group made up of local Kurds in Kurdistan uncovered by the security forces in the last two months.

 

The Iraqi Resistance claimed no operations during the week.
