Musings On Iraq In The News

Musings On Iraq was mentioned in UK Home Office's "Country Policy and Information Note Iraq: Security and humanitarian situation". I was quoted by Paul Iddon in "Can Iraq and Kurdistan finally forge an alliance against ISIS?" for Rudaw. Musings On Iraq was also cited in "ISIS in Iraq and Syria: Rightsizing the Current 'Comeback,'" by Hassan Hassan for the Center for Global Policy and by Michael Knights and Alex Almeida in "Remaining and Expanding: The Recovery of Islamic State Operations in Iraq in 2019-2020" in the CTC Sentinel.

Review Duty, Memoirs Of A Secretary At War

Gates, Robert, Duty, Memoirs Of A Secretary At War, New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2014

Robert Gates had a long history in U.S. government service. His last position was Secretary of Defense, which he held at the end of the Bush administration into the first term of President Obama. His memoir of that time Duty, Memoirs Of A Secretary At War covers the bureaucratic wars he went through, the difficulties he had with the military, and various challenges the United States faced, most importantly the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His most major incites come from the handling of those two conflicts. He found that the Pentagon and military were not committed to either one believing that they were aberrations, and he found American politics corrosive to running both.

Iraq Exaggerates Its Latest Operation Against The Islamic State Again

Iraq helped kill the Islamic State's Mutaz Noman al-Jabouri which it claimed was the governor of Iraq and assistant to its leader when he wasn't (AIN)

For the second time in a week the Iraqi government has exaggerated its work against the Islamic State. On May 26 Baghdad announced it helped kill Mutaz Noman al-Jabouri who it claimed was IS’ governor of Iraq and the assistant to its leader when he wasn’t. This came after Iraq said it
captured Abd Nasser Qirdash who was supposedly considered to be the successor of Abu Bakr al-Baghdad when in fact he was turned over by the Syrian Democratic Forces. This is in line with previous governments that also inflated its victories against the militants.
