Sadr Ends Election Boycott After Gaining No Concessions

(Iraq News Agency)
On July 15, Moqtada al-Sadr announced that his followers would boycott the October 2021 elections. He claimed there was a satanic plot to humiliate the country and therefore he could not take part. A month later Sadr’s real motivation was revealed when it was reported that he wanted the balloting to be postponed. Many of the major parties have been pushing this to little effect for months now and Sadr was the latest to try. The ruling elite are afraid they will be voted out of office and want to hold onto power as a result.

Review F-15C Eagle vs MiG-23/25, Iraq 1991

Review Dildy, Douglas & Cooper, Tom, F-15C Eagle vs MiG-23/25, Iraq 1991, Oxford, New York, 2016

F-15C Eagle vs MiG-23/25, Iraq 1991 was part of Osprey’s Duel series where they took two weapons systems that faced off against each other and compared them. All the books follow the same format. They explain how the weapons were developed, their specifications, the two sides that used them, the combat that took place and then a closing evaluation. This one focuses upon the U.S. facing Iraq in the Gulf War where the U.S. achieved a resounding victory but not without some losses and difficulties.

U.S. Army History of Iraq War Vol 1 - Chapter 16 – Going West, April-August 2005

Starting in the spring of 2005 Abu Musab al-Zarqawi launched his campaign to start a civil war between Iraq’s Sunnis and Shiites. That actually angered Al Qaeda who believed Zarqawi should be targeting the Americans instead. The new Jaafari government responded in kind by recruiting militiamen into the security forces and attacking Sunnis. The U.S. on the other hand completely missed what was going on as usual even though it had Zarqawi’s plan. Its new counterinsurgency approach was also failing because of the lack of troops. This period was the prequel to Iraq completely coming apart.
