Iraq’s Election Commission released partial early results for voter turnout in the provinces. It showed a surge of voting across the country compared to the last parliamentary elections in 2021.

Islamic State Shows Some Activity In Iraq In Sep 2025


 

The Islamic State showed a little bit of life in Iraq in September 2025. After just 1 incident in August there were 3 in September. One was an old explosive and another was a bomb going off which meant there were only 2 actual attacks during the month. That is about all the insurgency is capable of as it has collapsed.

Most books on the U.S. war in Iraq focus upon Anbar because of the Awakening there and Baghdad since it was the capital and the major sight of the civil war. Peter Svoboda’s Headhunter covers the 5th Squadron of the 82nd Airborne Division’s deployment to Diyala in eastern Iraq from 2006-07. The book focuses almost exclusively upon kinetic operations against the insurgency and the bond between the soldiers especially when they suffered losses.

Iraq’s Islamic Resistance Carries Out 65 Attacks On Israel In October


October saw nearly daily attacks upon Israel by Iraq’s Islamic Resistance. Not only that but there were usually multiple attacks per day. The result was a massive increase in strikes against Israel. On the other hand the Islamic State was barely active during the month.

US Army In The Iraq War Volume 2 Chapter 12 A New Iraq Policy For The United States


The twelfth chapter of the U.S. Army’s 2nd Volume on the Iraq War is about the 2011 U.S. withdrawal and its impacts upon Iraq. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki continued his concentration of power and was using the security forces to go after his opponents, the Islamic State of Iraq began its comeback while the Americans willingly gave away its influence with Baghdad.

US Army In The Iraq War Volume 2 Chapter 9 The Surge Culminates, Summer 2008


Chapter 9 of the U.S. Army’s second volume on the Iraq War focuses upon Iraqi security operations that were launched in the summer of 2008. Instead of being a sign of a new national leadership by the Maliki government the offensives highlighted the continued divisions within the country and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s first moves towards becoming an autocrat.

Americans Dominate Casualties In Iraq In Aug 2024


More than half of the casualties in Iraq in August 2024 were Americans. This resulted from an attack by pro-Iran groups and a joint Iraq-U.S. raid on an Islamic State camp. This was a decided change from previous months.

US Army In The Iraq War Volume 2 Ch 5 “The Surge Of Operations”


Chapter 5 of the second volume of the U.S. army’s history of the Iraq War focuses upon the summer of 2007. The Americans expanded their operations from Baghdad into neighboring Diyala while there were still differences over the new strategy. Part of that effort to turn tribes and insurgents against the Islamic State of Iraq ran into continued opposition from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. On the other hand, Iranian backed militias were fighting each other for control of southern Iraq.

After almost disappearing from Iraq in February the Islamic State let everyone know it was still present in the country. Pro-Iran groups maintained a ceasefire with the U.S. while claiming a number of attacks upon Israel.

Most of the new provincial governments in Iraq were decided in February. The Coordination Framework took most of the governors as expected because their main rival Muqtada al-Sadr boycotted. The list did not have its way however.
