Islamic State Shows Some Activity In Iraq In Sep 2025

The Islamic State showed a little bit of life in Iraq in September 2025. After just 1 incident in August there were 3 in September. One was an old explosive and another was a bomb going off which meant there were only 2 actual attacks during the month. That is about all the insurgency is capable of as it has collapsed.

In September there were a total of 3 incidents. The second week an old IED went off during a security sweep in Diyala while it was being handled by the army. 2 soldiers were wounded. During the third week a group of militants launched an ambush in Kirkuk that wounded 1 civilian and kidnapping another. In the last full week another bomb went off during a security sweep through Anbar. 2 members of the Counter Terror Service were killed an intelligence officer was injured.

In total there have only been 17 incidents by the Islamic State during the year. That’s an average of 1.8 incidents per month. In 2024 there was an average of 5.1 incidents a month showing how far the insurgency has fallen off. It is no longer a threat to the country.
