Both the insurgency and pro-Iran groups were active in Iraq during the first week of September.
There were 2 incidents by the Islamic State from September 1-7. An IED hit an army unit in the Dibs district of southern Kirkuk leaving 1 soldier dead and 3 wounded. In Ninewa an old bomb went off killing 4 civilians and injuring another.
The Islamic State has been more active in the last few weeks but at a very low level. Starting in February there were 15 out of 29 weeks were there was no insurgent activity. Since August however there have been incidents by IS 5 out of 6 weeks. Still, the group is only averaging 1 incident per week during that period and 1.3 incidents a week for the entire year which is nothing. The organization is basically dead in Iraq focusing almost all its attention upon Syria instead.
On September 4 the Islamic Resistance claimed a drone strike upon Israel. From July to August there were three weeks when these factions were silent but they are back to weekly attacks now. Still their operations have been declining each month since reaching an annual high of 20 in May. These groups would be much happier going after American troops in Iraq but the Sudani government and Iran has been talking them out of it.
