Security In Iraq Sep 15-21, 2023

The Islamic State was barely active for another week in Iraq. From September 15-21 there were only 2 incidents. The week before there was 1 and the first week of the month there was 1 as well. This was the 32^nd straight week and the 34^th of 35 weeks during the year where there was single digit incidents.

 

In the Tarmiya district of northern Baghdad province the Islamic State attacked some civilians and left two wounded. This is a longtime insurgent base and the militants were likely trying to keep people out of the area. This was the first incident in Baghdad since the middle of May.

 

2 soldiers were wounded by an IED in the Hamrin Mountains in Diyala. Again, this is an IS area and an insurgent transit route between Diyala and Salahaddin.
