Iraq Reverses 3 Month Decline In Oil Exports

Starting in October Iraq’s oil exports began declining as the country attempted to meet OPEC+ production quotas. That trend ended in January as foreign sales crept up slightly.

In January 2025 Iraq exported an average of 3.298 million barrels a day in petroleum. That was up from 3.259 million barrels in December. Those figures were below the 2024 average of 3.372 million barrels a day which was the highest amount since 2019 when the average was 3.527 million.

Iraq earned around $7.21 billion in January according to Iraq Oil Report as Baghdad has stopped providing full figures on the industry. That was the highest amount since October 2024.

Iraq Oil Report estimated that Iraq’s overall production was at 4.4 million barrels a day in January up from 4.16 million in December. That was still above its OPEC+ quota which stood at 4 million barrels in January. Baghdad has never met its quota because it is the most oil dependent country in the world and needs to sell as much petroleum as possible to cover its large budgets.
