(Oil and Gas) |
Iraq’s oil exports returned to their average in November 2019. Iraq also benefited from a slight uptick in revenues.
In November Iraq exported an average of 3.5
million barrels a day. That was up from 3.447 million barrels in October,
and just around the 2019 average of 3.53 million barrels per a day. The
increase was due to an uptick in petroleum flowing through Basra, which went
form 3.34 million barrels a day in October up to 3.4 million in November.
This increase came as oil prices went up slightly. In
November a barrel of Iraqi crude sold for $59.82,
which was up from $57.15 in October. Still, that was below the 2019 average of
$60.92 per barrel. Oil prices have been largely stagnant for the last year
because of a glut of supply. They started at $56.15 in January, reached a peak
of $67.41 in April due to tensions with Iran, but then have been largely trending
downwards since then.
Higher prices for Iraqi crude led to more revenues. Iraq
earned $6.282 billion in November. That was up from $6.107 billion in October,
but below the yearly average of $6.52 billion. Iraq is hoping to increase its
profits by backing a new
production quota within OPEC. Ironically, Iraq has never followed any of
those agreements, and has contributed to the current oversupply on the oil
market.
