A member of the Framework filed a new lawsuit over who is the largest bloc in parliament. The Framework claims that it is which would give it the right to pick the next prime minister. The problem is Moqtada al-Sadr has the most seats. This is the third lawsuit filed by the Framework for the same reason, that’s to give it more time to negotiate with Sadr who opposes giving former prime minister Nuri al-Maliki and Qais Khazali the leader of Asaib Ahl Al-Haq any positions. The Framework wants another national unity government that will include all the winners from October’s election while Sadr wants a majority government.
Iran has been trying to mediate between the two sides unsuccessfully. It has now recruited Massoud Barzani to be a middleman between the two factions, but Sadr holds the upper hand and seems unwilling to compromise with his longtime rivals.
