Security In Iraq Dec 8-14, 2024

There was only one violent incident in Iraq during the second week of December.

 

On December 9 the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) conducted a raid in the Fallujah district in central Anbar. They came upon a group of Islamic State members leading to a gun battle. 2 ISF members were killed and 2 others were wounded as a result.

 

The insurgency hasn’t carried out an actual attack since the third week of November as it has largely been inactive in the country for almost the entire year. The group is only averaging 1.2 incidents per week in 2024.

 

There were also no drone strikes upon Israel by the Iraqi Resistance for the second week. Those factions are still reeling from the fall of Assad in Syria. The Sudani government may have also finally been successful in convincing them to stop their operation out of fear of Israeli retaliation.
