Donald Trump has been called a transactional president. He expects things in return for his actions. It was recently revealed that Trump took this approach with Iraq and the Gaza War.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani called Trump and asked him to help end the war in Gaza. Trump said he would but only if Iraq nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. The president has been pining away at receiving this award. Sudani agreed.
This has hurt Sudani who is attempting to retain his position as prime minister after recent elections. His critics have accused him of being close to the Americans. This revelation will only increase those attacks.
It also highlights Trump’s motivation for pushing a peace deal in Gaza. It wasn’t out of desire to stop the violence but rather to win acclaim for himself. The fact that there are all kinds of problems in Palestine and Trump is doing nothing shows that he just wanted the headlines and now doesn’t really care about the matter.
