Most Of Iraq’s Oil Fields Are Closed Due To US-Iran Conflict

Iraq’s oil production has continued to decline because of the U.S.-Iran conflict.

Iraq Oil Report found that production was at 1.41 million barrels a day in April. That was down from 1.85 million in March. In 2025 the country averaged 4.79 million barrels a month.

Only two major oil fields remain operating in the south Rumaila and Zubayr along with a few smaller ones. Their output is mostly going to domestic refineries.

A few oil tankers have been able to make their way through the Iranian and American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Four have gotten out carrying a total of 7 million barrels. Another tanker from China with two million barrels just left the Strait.

Still the country’s exports are a paltry amount from before the war. Since Iraq is the most oil dependent country in the world this is leading to a huge budget deficit.
