During the fourth week of November the Islamic State once again disappeared from Iraq while incidents by the Islamic Resistance also fell off.
From November 22-28 there were no attacks by the Islamic State in Iraq. The week before the group set off an IED. Previous to that there were three weeks with no insurgent violence. This was the 21st week out of 44 this year with no incidents by IS. These are all the latest signs that the militants are no longer active in the country.
Iraq’s Islamic Resistance carried out two drone strikes on Israel. The third week of November there were 9 attacks, 19 the second week and 18 the first week.
It appears that the Resistance is finally listening to Baghdad which is afraid Israeli retaliation is imminent.
During the week it was reported that the government asked the U.S. to stop any Israeli action against Iraq. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein also said that Iraq had received threats from Israel due to the activities of the Resistance.
Elements of the Resistance remained defiant publicly however. A spokesman for Al-Nujaba stated that the Resistance represented the will of the Iraqi people and that it didn’t fear any Israeli action. Then a few days later the group accused Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani of colluding with Israel and that it was not afraid to bring down Iraq’s political process as a result.
Finally in a statement full of Irony Kataib Sayid al-Shuahda claimed that Iraq would not be attacked by Israel because of the security agreement with the United States. Shuhada and the rest of the Resistance have attacked American forces in Iraq and demanded that they withdraw from the country.
