For the first time since 2003 there was no insurgent violence in Iraq during the month of April. Islamic State activity began dramatically dropping in late 2023. By 2025 there can no longer be said to be an insurgency in the country.
There were no security incidents by the Islamic State in Iraq during April. This was the first time this has happened since the United States invaded the country.
The last incident was during the first week of March when a checkpoint in northern Baghdad province was attacked.
Since the start of the year there have been 9 weeks with no activity by IS. There have only been 10 incidents this year in total and more than half of those were old ordinance detonating or the security forces coming across militants leading to a gun battle.
For all intense and purposes there is no longer an insurgency in Iraq.
