Iran War Day 38: Candidates For Iraq’s PM Align With Pro-Iran Resistance To Gain Office

The pro-Iran Resistance was active in Kurdistan and Baghdad. A peshmerga headquarters was hit by four drones on April 5. The next day two blasts were heard near Irbil airport. Four missiles were shot down heading towards the U.S. consulate in Irbil city. Multiple drones were also intercepted in Irbil province with debris hitting a residential area killing two civilians. In Baghdad drones targeted the logistics support center at the airport.

Overall, the Resistance claimed 21 operations in Iraq and the Middle East on April 6.

Al Mada reported that some members of the ruling Coordination Framework are unwilling to confront the Resistance because they are pro-Iranian, directly connected to the groups or are courting them to gain political power. Both Sudani and Nuri al-Maliki are competing to be the next premier and have Resistance members in their coalition. This is the reason why the security forces have not been able to stop the attacks.

The U.S. and Israeli struck the Resistance in Kirkuk, Ninewa, Salahaddin, and Anbar. Kataib Imam Ali’s 40th Hashd Brigade was hit by an airstrike in west Kirkuk. Quwat al-Shaheed al-Sadr’s 25th Hashd Brigade also faced an airstrike at the Ninewa Operations Command. The Turkmen 52nd Hashd Brigade was hit by four strikes in Tuz Kharmato, Salahaddin. Liwa al-Tafuf’s 13th Hashd Brigade suffered seven separate air attacks in Qaim, Anbar.

A North Oil Company official told Kurdistan 24 that Basra oil will be reaching Turkey soon for export. 90,000 barrels will be trucked from Basra to Kirkuk to be shipped to Turkey. The Oil Ministry wants to eventually raise that amount to 330,000 barrels a day. The south has limited storage capacity and Baghdad wants to increase its exports as much as it can through these alternative routes because it is desperate for money with petroleum accounting for more than 90% of the state’s revenue.

The Electricity Ministry announced that the war has led Tehran to reduce its natural gas exports to Iraq. The result is a 3,500 megawatt cut in power output. Iran is only providing around 5 million cubic meters per day of gas compared to the 30 million contracted. Baghdad relies upon Tehran for up to 40% of its power output.
