U.S. Military Units In Iraq

Although the majority of America’s troops have withdrawn from Iraq, 49,700 remain in the country housed in 92 bases. They are under the command of General Lloyd Austin, head of III Corps, who assumed control of U.S. forces in Iraq from General Ray Odierno on September 1, 2010. III Corps operates out of the Al Faw Palace at Victory Base, which is part of the Baghdad airport. Below is a breakdown of the units under its command.
