Iraq’s Communist Party Celebrates May Day 2013

 
Iraq’s Communist Party used to be one of the largest and most powerful in the country. Under the Baath it was mercilessly hunted down with much of its leadership assassinated. Since the 2003 fall of Saddam Hussein it has struggled mightily to rebuild itself. As part of that effort for the last several years it has held marches on May Day throughout Iraq. These are pictures of the Communist Party celebrating the event in Baghdad’s Firdos Square, May 1, 2013.
