April was a good month for Iraq’s oil industry. It saw the highest exports in four months which led to the largest monthly revenue total in five months.
In April 2023 Iraq exported an average of 3.288 million barrels a day. That was up from March’s 3.255 million and the highest amount since December’s 3.332 million. This happened despite oil production declining and Turkey closing its pipeline with Iraq.
During the month Iraqi crude went for $79.04 per barrel. This was the most Iraq earned since November’s $82.41. Still Iraqi petroleum has been going for around $70 since December after hitting a high as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The country was able to earn $7.796 billion. December was the last time Iraq made that much at $8.23 billion.
Iraq needs to earn as much money as it can from its major source of income because it is in the process of passing the largest budget in its history. It also has the largest deficit as well. The more Iraq makes from its oil exports the less it will have to borrow.
