Security In Iraq Nov 8-14, 2024



The Islamic State was absent from Iraq for a third consecutive week. Iraq’s Islamic Resistance on the other hand continues to escalate versus Israel.

 

For the third week there were no incidents involving the Islamic State in Iraq. This was the 20th week out of 42 this year that IS was absent. The group is averaging only 1.2 incidents per week in 2024. That compares to 2.6 incidents per week in 2023.


 

The group just lost its Wali/Governor for Iraq last month and is probably trying to regroup.

 

Iraq’s Islamic Resistance on the other hand is increasing its attacks upon Israel. During the second week of November there were 19 attacks. There were 18 the week before.

 

Baghdad has desperately been trying to get the Resistance to back off out of fear that Israel will retaliate and strike Iraq. National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji was the latest Iraqi official to visit Iran to lobby that government to talk its allies and get them to de-escalate. 2 other delegations failed to get any promises from Iran.
