Security In Iraq Apr 8-14, 2024

The Islamic State continues to fade in Iraq while pro-Iran groups claimed another attack upon Israel.

 

From April 8-14 there were no attacks by the Islamic State in Iraq. The week before there was just 1. The last full week of March there were none. This was the fifth week this year when the insurgency was inactive. This trend started in the winter of 2023 and has continued into this year with more regularity.

 

Iraq’s Islamic Resistance claimed 3 drone strikes upon Israel on April 8. These factions have claimed 1-2 such operations each week since the start of March. Few of these attacks are ever confirmed and it’s not clear whether the drones were launched from Iraq or Syria or both.

 

The ceasefire on hitting US targets in Iraq remains in place.
