Iraq’s Islamic Resistance Continued Its Campaign Vs Israel In June 2024

June was dominated by stories of Iraq’s Islamic Resistance launching attacks upon Israel for its war in Gaza. Some of these incidents were allegedly in conjunction with Yemen’s Houthis. The Islamic State was barely active during the month.

 

There was only 1 incident by the Islamic State in June. A booby trapped house killed 1 member of the Hashd al-Shaabi in Baghdad’s north Tarmiya district. This was the second time since 2003 that there was 1 incident in a month by the insurgency in Iraq. This year IS has only averaged 4 incidents per month an all time low. In 2023 the group averaged 11 incidents per month.

 

The main news was Iraq’s Islamic Resistance’s continued attacks upon Israel. There were 13 in June. That compared to 20 in May. Four of the month’s incidents were said to be in coordination with Yemen’s Houthis. Both forces are backed by Iran and have been carrying out operations against Israel and the West since the start of the Gaza War.

 

The Resistance has also been saber rattling that it would support Hezbollah if Israel attacked Lebanon.
