Security In Iraq July 8-14, 2024

During the second week of July the Islamic State returned to Iraq. Pro-Iran groups on the other hand launched no attacks upon Israel for the first time in months.

Iraq’s Islamic Resistance made no announcements about attacks from. July 8-14. This was the first time since December that there had been no assaults upon Israel for its war in Gaza.

There were 4 security incidents involving the Islamic State. In Diyala a security sweep led to a gun battle which killed 3 police and 2 soldiers and wounded another 2 policemen. In Kirkuk there was another shoot out that left 1 Asayesh dead and another injured. Finally, there were two shootings in eastern Salahaddin at the start of the week that resulted in 4 civilian deaths and 1 wounded.

This was a decided change from previous weeks where IS was barely active. For instance in four of the last seven weeks there was no violence by the insurgency at all.
