Dec Sees Insurgent Violence In Iraq But No Actual Attacks By The Islamic State

There were several violent incidents in Iraq involving the Islamic State during December but none of them were actual attacks by the organization.

There were a total of 5 incidents involving the insurgency in December. That was the most incidents since there were 7 in September and 7 in August.

However none of these incidents were attacks by IS. The last time the group carried out an actual operation was in November.

In Anbar there was a raid in the Fallujah district which led to a gun battle with militants that caused the death of 2 members of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and wounded 1 other, while some farmers came across an old IED that killed 1 and injured 3.

The Counter Terror Service was doing a sweep through the Hamrin Mountains in Kirkuk when they discovered some IS fighters and a shootout ensued that killed 1 CTS member.

Finally two other leftover bombs went off in Salahaddin that left 6 dead and 2 wounded total.

There were no actions by the Iraqi Islamic Resistance during the month for the first time since the Gaza War started. Many of its attacks came from Syria and it has now lost the use of that territory after the fall of Asad.
