Iraq saw the paradox of declining oil exports but an increase in revenue in December.
In December Iraq Oil Report estimated that Iraq exported an average of 3.259 million barrels a day. That was down from 3.296 million barrels in November and the lowest amount since March 2023.
Exports have been declining for the last 5 months as the country cuts production in an attempt to meet its OPEC+ quota.
According to Iraq Oil Report Iraq’s petroleum output was at 4.2 million barrels a day in November down from 4.28 million in October. Its quota was 3.9 million however for November. Iraq has never complied with its quotas because it is the most oil dependent country in the world and needs to sell as much as it can to earn enough to cover its increasing budgets.
Revenue was actually up in December to $7.15 billion compared to $7.01 billion in November. That was due to the fact that December has one more day.
Iraq has been earning around $7 billion a month since September compared to a high of $9 billion in July as international prices have been declining.
That is giving added incentive for OPEC+ to get Iraq to follow its quota but it is only having partial success.
