Security In Iraq Oct 22-28, 2024

Only the Iraqi Islamic Resistance was active during the fourth week of October. For the third week the Islamic State carried out no operations in Iraq.

 

From October 22-28 the Iraqi Resistance claimed 17 drone and missiles strikes upon Israel. The week before there were 8 such attacks, 17 the week before that and 18 the first week of the month. That’s a total of 60 attacks during the month, the most since the Gaza War began last year.

 

These attacks continue despite the Sudani government and Tehran constantly talking to these factions to scale back out of fear of Israeli retaliation.

 

There was no activity by the Islamic State during the week. This is the third week when the group carried out no attacks. The third week of October there was a shooting incident with insurgents but that came about due to a security sweep by the Iraqi forces that came upon some militants.

 

The group faced another setback when its Wali/governor of Iraq was killed in a joint U.S.-Iraqi raid. 2 U.S. service members were wounded as a result. IS’s leadership has been devastated and not been able to rebuild which is a major reason why the organization is basically dead in Iraq.
