Consulate In Iraq Attacked Along With Pro-Iran Resistance

The lead story in the Iran war’s impact on Iraq was that the United Arab Emirates’ consulate in Irbil was targeted by a drone either by Tehran or the Iraqi Resistance. This forced Baghdad into a series of phone calls with foreign countries to assure them that their diplomats would be safe in the country although  there is no guarantee that will happen.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed it hit the U.S. military at the Al-Harir Air Base in Irbil with five missiles. Air defenses shot down a drone over Irbil airport, three more were destroyed over Camp Victoria at Baghdad airport and another crashed over Balad Air Base in Salahaddin.

The Iraq Resistance claimed a small victory downing a U.S. drone over northern Basra province.

Separately a drone crashed inside the Majnoon oil field in Basra. Iran has been targeting Iraq’s oil fields to put pressure upon the Trump administration to end the war.

The Americans and Israeli continued to go after the Resistance. Six Imam Ali Brigade members were killed in two separate attacks in the Dibis district in Kirkuk. 20 people were injured many of which were civilians. The Khorasani Brigade was hit three times in Qaim in Anbar resulting in five injured. That group was also attacked in Akashat, Anbar. There were injuries but no numbers provided.

For the second time there was a report that a helicopter was deployed inside Iraq. It targeted the Shabak 30th Brigade in Ninewa.

Finally, the Oil Ministry is desperately attempting to find a way to export its oil. It is discussing trucking petroleum to Jordan and then shipping out through the Red Sea. There are talks about using the Kurdish-Turkish pipeline. Restoring the pipeline to Saudi Arabia was also mentioned but that would be a long term project and do nothing for the current crisis. Iraq is the most oil dependent country in the world and has drastically cut back its production because it cannot export through the Strait of Hormuz due to the war.
