On March 19 it was reported that the government got the pro-Iran Resistance to agree to a ceasefire. Violence went markedly down for two days but then on March 22 things were back to normal.
The Baghdad Airport was the focus of activity. It faced at least eight waves of drones and rockets. Most of those were shot down by air defenses but one rocket landed on a Counter Terror Service (CTS) building which wounded five members. The airport is used by the United States and has traditionally been a target of insurgents and militias since 2003. The CTS is also seen as being pro-American and disliked by the Resistance as a result.
A drone hit a Peshmeraga headquarters in Mount Qarajok in Sulaymaniya province. Three Kurds were injured as a result. The Resistance has claimed that the U.S. is using Kurdish bases to carry out operations within Iraq. The Kurds are also seen as America’s closest allies in the country.
In total the Resistance claimed 21 attacks on March 22 in Iraq and the Middle East.
The Resistance was targeted as well. Kataib Hezbollah’s base in Babil’s Jurf al-Sakhr witnessed three airstrikes that wounded one. Liwa al-Tafuf’s 13th Hashd Brigade was hit by warplanes in Anbar. This is the first time that group has been struck. It is affiliated with Kataib Hezbollah.
