Security In Iraq Sep 8-14, 2023

The Islamic State continues to die a slow death in Iraq. During the second week of September there was only 1 incident. There was 1 incident the week before as well. The last time there were more than 5 incidents in one week was the second week of May.

 

This was the 31^st straight week and the 33^rd of 34 weeks during the year where there were single digit incidents.

 

The one attack took place south of Mosul in Ninewa when a gunman killed a civilian. These types of incidents are usually aimed at keeping civilians and the government out of Islamic State areas.

 

This is about all the insurgency is capable of at this time, which is protecting itself and surviving.
