Security In Iraq May 8-14, 2024

Pro-Iran groups continued to claim multiple attacks upon Israel during the Gaza War while there was a rare incident by the Islamic State in Iraq during the second week of May.

 

After being quite for a month the Islamic State carried out an attack upon a checkpoint in Salahdddin along the Diyala border. Not only that but 5 soldiers were killed and another 5 were wounded as a result. The last time IS was active in Iraq was April 7 when it assaulted another checkpoint in Ninewa.

 

On the other hand the Iraqi Islamic Resistance dominated the news during the week. It claimed three drone strikes on Israel and two cruise missile attacks. Since January the Resistance has been talking about attacks upon Israel for the Gaza War but only a few have ever been confirmed.

 

The ceasefire remains in Iraq so these pro-Iran group cannot attack Americans which is their real goal so they are talking about Israel more and more to make up for it.
